MD's very own Seyhan Musaoglu curated and founded {SØNiK}Fest in 2010 and has joined forces with Mitsu Hadeishi to create a dynamic new media, group exhibition featuring live performances, video and sound installations, film and video screenings, and a selection of visual artworks. The end result will be a completely live performance, complete with a visual representation of a score created in the moment, as sounds are generated.

An extension of the group exhbition of the same title (”Implausible Structures”), the two performances will explore limitations, restrictions, industrial landscape, time, and degrees of audience interaction.

MeKaniKdolls will be performing a live DJ/sound set at the opening of the exhibition "implausible structures", curated by Suzanne Stroebe. The exhibition features the work of artists David Schafer, Rebecca Curry, Dan Carlson, Jana Flynn, and Angela Basile.

Created out of a response to recent trends and changes in the art market and the struggling gallery scene, Castlebraid Real Estate has teamed up with the Williamsburg Gallery Association to create a month-long, changing exhibition space for local artists, galleries, organizations, musicians, and more. Artist and galleries will take over multiple floors of a recently constructed building for an exciting, DIY, art fair of sorts.

The opening is Saturday, September 12 from 4pm-midnight, with openings, performances, and MeKaniKdolls' DJ set beginning at 8pm. We'll be playing a selection of original tracks (unreleased and released), as well as creating an eclectic, ambient, industrial soundscape to accompany the installed artworks.

"Home Listening" @ Mildred's Lane

On Friday, July 10, Jess assisted artist David Schafer at a sound/performance event. The event, "Home Listening" was curated by Bret Schneider for Mildred's Lane, in Scranton, PA. Six sound artists were asked to perform their material in various outdoor sites around the grounds of Mildred's Lane for a night of noise. Listeners were to walk around the grounds with flashlights visiting the array of sound stations, while enjoying the mixing and overlapping of the divergent sounds.

Jess played selections from the upcoming debut EP, "Dolls Play Loud" by MeKaniKdolls before and after Schafer's noise set. Here's a photo of Jess making noise in the woods :)

Our friends at Lumenhouse hosted a unique fundraiser/dance party/art exhibition to raise support for the financial needs of maintaining an art space in these difficult economic times. On April 25th, Lumenhouse will be hosting a benefit to ensure their continued presence in Bushwick. Lumenhouse has been incredibly generous to Arts in Bushwick, donating their space for many events including AIB benefit for Bushwick Open Studios. Please help us help them.

We would like to compile a collection of digital visuals that will reflect on the creative energy of the Bushwick community, bringing the collective experience together to re-compose a video projection as part of the benefit event paired with the after party. We believe it is crucial in these times of economic hardship to stress the importance of creative community, and to keep alive the artistic support in the spirit of maintaining this important institution — Lumenhouse.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

- Submit any digital visual (photography and/or video) that reflects your experience in the community and the neighborhood. The visuals should be in the manner of short snapshots of people, places, events, objects and experiences.

-Along with your submission please include: Name, E-Mail, and How you found out about the project.

-Preferred method of submission is via email attachment at BUSHWICKVISUALS@GMAIL.COM

Bushwick Arts- BETA Spaces 08

We are excited to be a part of this year's Arts in Bushwick Festival, BETA Spaces 08. The day-long open studios festival takes place this SUNDAY, November 9 from 11am-7pm throughout the Bushwick, Brooklyn area. Throughout the day over 20 participating spaces, ranging from apartments to galleries to public spaces, will open their doors for exhibitions featuring live performances, video/film screenings, visual art in galleries, installations, and community participation.

We have several works shown throughout the day. At LABryinth, located at 330 Melrose St. (See #11 on the attached Map) we will be performing live all day. Our site-specific installation/performance, titled "The Biting Fairies" will occupy the stairwell of a four-story loft building. We are collaborating with Matthew de Leon, who has designed our costumes, and assisted in the design of the set. We will be performing in 40-minute increments all day long.

Also, three of our films will be screened in succession at the "Rich & Free" exhibition featuring dance-based films, performances, installations and more. This event will be at Lumenhouse, 47 Beaver St. (see #2 on the attached map). Our films will screen twice throughout the day; once in the first set between 1:15pm-1:40pm, and in the second set 5:30pm-5:50pm, with an artist/audience discussion to be held at 2pm.

Seyhan also has a work featured in the exhibition, "FOOD: The Vital Stuff" to be held at Deep In The Woods Studios, 476 Jefferson St. (See #17 on the attached Map). The video will be screened throughout the day.

A night of experimental sound and performance. Featuring innovative performances by MeKaniKdolls, the shooting star experiment of lights, and Head Trip Conception.

Head Trip Conception is an electronic project from Sleepy Hollow, NY that fuses the sound of early 80's industrial to modern day electronic/dance music. Head Trip Conception blends a diverse electronic sound utilizing computer software, vocal experimentation, and unconventional stylings.

the shooting star experiment of lights is an experimental sound project that explores the range of experimentation through minimal use of sound and technology. Often creating performances based on a single instrument alone.

MeKaniKdolls is a collaborative performance project utilizing live improvisational practices, contemporary dance, film projection and spoken word. They create a multi-media experience within their poetics, with a fusion of 8mm, 16mm films and industrial/ experimental sounds.

Anti Oxidant Cinema Series

Tomorrow, October 8th, we will be screening our short film "Antagonist" on Super 8, along with found footage on 16mm at the Anti Oxidant Cinema Series at The Lounge at Northeast Kingdom in Brooklyn, NY. Screenings begin at 9, but come early for dinner & drinks. Seating is limited, and the event is FREE :)
